Lipsticks are great for elevating your face and also give you a confidence boost. A quickly applied nude or hot red takes your face to a 100 any day. July 29 is lipstick day, and we asked some of your favourite content creators about their favourite lipsticks.
Just before we share their picks, getting the right lipsticks is one step; knowing how to apply them is another. Lipsticks tie your whole makeup look together, so it is important to get it right while applying them. Makeup artist, Morinsayo of Mobelle Faces, generously shares her tips with us as she glammed up our World Cup special feature star, Rashidat Ajibade.
How to apply lipsticks to achieve different looks
For a smooth and seamless application, especially when you’ll be using matte lipsticks, moisturize first. This allows your lipstick to glide on smoothly and prevents cracking.
For a long-lasting glossy lip, apply a matte long-wear lipstick and then go over it with a gloss; this lasts longer than applying only lip gloss.
For this, use a lighter shade on the center of your upper and lower lips, then a darker shade at the edges. Make sure to blend well.
To achieve plumper lips, apply your lip liner just outside your natural lip line, then apply your lipstick of choice and go over it with a lip gloss.
Maximize your lipsticks
Remember this post about maximizing the items in your makeup kit? Your favourite warm lipstick can also be your favourite blush! Dab a little on your beauty sponge and apply it to your cheeks for a pop of colour and warmth.
