Healthy habits we’re picking up this year

As we embrace the new year, many of us are looking to upgrade our health and wellness routines. With the rising awareness of self-care and holistic living, it’s easier than ever to adopt habits that nourish both body and mind. From simple tweaks to transformative practices, here are the health habits we’re picking up this year.

Stick to a mindful morning routine

Ditch the snooze button and start your day with intention. Whether it’s meditation, journaling, or a quiet cup of coffee, a mindful morning routine sets the tone for a focused and productive day.

According to a report on BBC, when you stick to a morning routine, you’ll benefit from fewer negative thoughts, be calmer with the people around you and likely sleep better too.

Healthline says staying hydrated is one of the simplest yet most effective health habits, especially in Nigeria’s hot climate. Ensure you drink at least 8-10 glasses of water per day, and explore infused water options like cucumber, lemon, and mint for added flavour and nutrition.

Try a digital detox

In a world dominated by screens, the occasional digital detox is becoming increasingly essential. Growing evidence now shows the use of social media has a negative impact on women’s mental health, from its addictive nature to disruptions in sleep patterns to effects on body image.

A new study by York University’s Faculty of Health found young women who took a social media break for as little as one week had a significant boost in self-esteem and body image. Set aside device-free hours or days to rejuvenate, reflect, and reconnect with the world around you.

Check that pain

Whether it is the pain you feel on the left side of your tummy after peeing, that excruciating back pain you feel immediately after you get out of bed or something else, you’re getting it checked this year. Health experts say early detention is the best chance of cure and if you wait for symptoms, you’ve waited too long.

As proactive women looking to get the best out of the year, ensuring you are healthy and fit is crucial to achieving your goals.

Use movement as your medicine

Exercise has never been just about physical health; it’s also a mental wellness powerhouse. Discover activities that bring you joy, whether it’s dancing, hiking, or yoga, and make movement a non-negotiable part of your daily routine.

Adopt a positive attitude

Cultivate a positive mindset by incorporating a daily gratitude practice. Reflect on the good things in your life, no matter how small they may seem, and watch your outlook and relationships flourish.

As we embark on this journey of health and wellness, remember that every small step counts. Start with one or two habits and gradually build up to a routine that nourishes your body, mind, and spirit. Here’s to a healthier, happier you in the new year!
