The 10th edition of the AMVCA awards is finally here!
And beyond the surprise wins and the unexpected snubs, the other topic of discussion will be the who slayed and who tanked in the looks department. The Africa Magic Viewer’s Choice Awards kicked off with the opening night and cultural day on Thursday, and has steadily built up to the finale this evening, and we are ready for all the glitz and glamour our stars will bring to our screens this night for the main awards show.
Over the years, the hair and makeup on the AMVCA’s red carpet have become a way to make a statement and leave a lasting impression on the press and photographers in attendance. Like many red carpet events, the AMVCAs are a great moment for Nigerian celebrities in Nollywood to showcase a variety of creative looks while having a good time. If there’s anything we Nigerians love, it’s dressing up for a good time and showing out.
At Marie Claire, we’re betting on the hair and beauty trends making an appearance this year. Will our stars follow the current trends or create theirs? What looks should we be expecting? So many questions!
“Last year, the most popular looks were low ponytails, Hollywood waves and updos (which are typical),” says Tonibi Senibo, lace frontal specialist and lead hair stylist at Touchofibee, “this year I’m hoping for the stars to rock something fresh and innovative but I know we’re bound to see an influx of ponytails, slick backs and wet looks.”
Well, there are a lot of options to choose from. We’ve seen the reemergence of the smoky eyes trend from the 90s, bold graphic liners, glossy lips and pastel eyeshadow makeup looks on runways and events across the globe, these are trendy looks we’re predicting to see played out on the AMVCA red carpet this year.
For hair, we know our stars love their ponytails but seeing a center parting and low bun hairstyles are also trendy, more people will certainly delve into that and infuse their personal touch as well.
One more thing: embellishments. It wouldn’t be an award show if the carpet isn’t filled with shiny crystals on the lids, around the crease or even on the brows. Bringing the editorial touch to reality is such a thing now & we hope to see this recreated in a flawless & classy fashion .
