Oluwatoyin Salau’s murderer has been sentenced to life in prison

Aaron Glee, the murderer of Oluwatoyin Salau, has been sentenced to life in prison three years after her gruesome murder.

Oluwatoyin Salau was a student and a human rights activist who took to the streets of Tallahassee, Florida, to advocate for black lives during the black lives matter protests of June 2020 in the United States of America.

Despite being susceptible to unjust living conditions, Oluwatoyin Salau did not relent in her passion for contributing to a just society. The unlawful murders of Breonna Taylor and George Floyd during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic triggered the 2020 Black Lives Matter protests. During this time, unsafe living conditions forced her to move around from churches to friends’ places.

During the protests, she met 49-year-old Aaron Glee, who offered Oluwatoyin a place to stay because of the unsafe conditions of the streets during the protests. Oluwatoyin agreed to this, unsuspecting of Aaron Glee and unaware of his intentions. The 19-year-old revealed on Twitter that Aaron Glee had assaulted her in the days that followed, but like many similar cases, the police refused to help her due to “lack of evidence”. Aaron Glee jr, on the other hand, had a long-standing record of violence against women, but still, the police did not apprehend him until Oluwatoyin was found dead on June 13th 2020, along with 75-year-old longtime activist Vicki Sims.

The Tallahassee Democrat provided detailed reports of the events that followed.

On September 22, 2023, the court sentenced Aaron Glee to life in prison for the horrific murders of 19-year-old Oluwatoyin Salau and 75-year-old Victoria Sims.
