Our editors are celebrating sisterhood this Galentine’s Day

Mark your calendars, ladies! February 13th is Galentine’s Day — a celebration of female friendships and the incredible women who make our lives richer. Popularised by the lovable Leslie Knope from “Parks and Recreation,” this day is about cherishing the ladies who uplift us, support us, and make us laugh.

Amid Valentine’s week, Galentine’s Day reminds us that love and appreciation come in many forms, including the unbreakable bonds of sisterhood. To mark the celebration this year, here’s how the editors at Marie Claire Nigeria are spending Galentine’s Day:

A colour-themed evening

Our  Copy Editor, Esther, and her girls plan to have a little colour-themed get-together. Having fun, discussing plans for the future, and exchanging gifts are on the list of activities for the evening, and she plans to gift her girlfriends “adorable charm bracelets and I can’t wait to see the look on their faces.”

On the other hand, Tobi, our Content Editor, would like to take a personal approach to gifting to celebrate the women who have been her “rock” this past year. “The ideal gift would be specially created to fit each person’s personality.” On that note, our Content Editor says she has been looking at Unrefyned Jewelry’s gorgeous statement necklaces for her girls, “I’d pick one for each of my friend’s birthstones if I could.”

A little mischief for the ladies

How about a little spice for Galentine’s Day? While our Acting Managing Editor, Denise, is solely focused on celebrating self-love for this year’s Galentine’s, she’s open to a little mischief. “As the cheeky minx I am, I might just treat everyone to some sex toys for their solo playtime.” *wink wink*

Although Galentine’s Day holds significance for her, she won’t be taking part in any celebrations with friends this year.

Act of service is always a hit

Our Lifestyle and Culture Features Editor, Inemesit, is determined to have a “good time” with her girls this Galentine’s which she sees as the perfect opportunity to love up on the women in her life. “I am hanging out with my girls, and as an act of service babe, I am cooking a little something for them.”

‘Love Letters’ brunch

With “something interesting planned out,” Ebunoluwa, the Fashion and Beauty Editor, is particularly excited about Galentine’s this year. “We are having a ‘Love Letters’ brunch but with an exciting twist.”

Ebunoluwa explains, “Each person writes a heartfelt letter to their future self, and we seal it until next year.” The possibility of starting and continuing a tradition is truly inspiring, and we’re excited about it. To play her part in the grand scheme of consumerism, Ebunoluwa is also getting her girls “customised keychains for our future Range Rovers.”

Galentine’s Day is special to us at Marie Claire Nigeria because it celebrates the deep, enriching bonds with women, reminding us that love can be just as powerful and fulfilling without romance. So, take time to celebrate the amazing women in your life – your partners in crime, your confidantes, and your forever friends!
