What happens when love meets fame in the heart of Lagos?
Nollywood has a way of getting me super excited and my latest discovery, “A Lagos Love Story”, is no exception. While searching for a cinematic escape from adulting, I stumbled on the trailer and made a mental note to watch it.
Produced by the acclaimed Inkblot Productions, known for hits like “The Wedding Party,” the highly anticipated movie was released on Netflix. Under the skilled direction of Naz Onuzo, alongside producers Zulumoke Oyibo and Damola Ademola, the film brings the vibrant world of Afrobeats, fashion, and celebrity culture to life. Here’s everything I liked about this Nollywood gem.
The cliche storyline

Written by Naz Onuzo and Ozzy Etomi, “A Lagos Love Story” follows the life of a rising Afrobeats superstar and an ambitious event planner. They work through a week of high-profile events that should have been strictly business… until it wasn’t. Sounds familiar, right? I know it’s cliche, but what’s a rom-com without a few cliches?
The easy flow of each character’s story and how they all connect makes the movie enjoyable. Life is already unpredictable, and a little bit of stability is welcome—even if it comes from fictional TV dramas.
The exciting cast

The star-studded cast is equal parts talented and fresh, featuring Jemima Osunde, Susan Pwajok, Mike Afolarin, Chimezie Imo, Uche Montana, Veeiye, Ihuoma Linda Ejiofor, and Ibrahim Suleiman.
The on-screen chemistry between King Kator (Mike Afolarin) and Promise (Jemima Osunde) was electric, leaving me blushing at their tender moments. But what truly stole the show was the sibling dynamic between Promise and Favour (Susan Pwajok) — their bickering banter was hilarious, yet their underlying love and support for each other was heartwarming and authentic.
Each actor delivers a nuanced performance, exploring love, heartbreak, and connection in the fast-paced city of Lagos, making their portrayals both relatable and emotionally compelling.
A well-thought-out wardrobe

The wardrobe in “A Lagos Love Story” is a standout element, with each character’s style meticulously curated to reflect their unique personality.
King Kator’s streetwear style perfectly captures his charm, while Promise’s effortless, comfortable looks showcase her relaxed elegance. Meanwhile, Favour’s chic and sassy ensembles as a fashion designer add a touch of sophistication, making her a true style icon.
I was also impressed with Adanna and Fafekemi’s wardrobe as it did an excellent job capturing their sophisticated lifestyle. Every character’s wardrobes captured the diversity of Lagos, remaining true to the heart of the movie.
That wraps up my thoughts on the film. Now, I’m off to hunt down the next cinematic gem that piques my interest and captures my imagination.
