The biggest shoe trends we’re looking to still see everywhere in 2026

Elevate your wardrobe from the ground up — these shoes are the must-haves of the year.

They say good shoes take you to good places, and I’m a firm believer in that. There’s something about slipping into a beautiful pair of shoes that doesn’t just complete an outfit, but elevates it entirely. It lifts your mood too — literally putting a little extra pep in your step.

The excitement of getting new shoes is something many of us have carried with us since childhood. From waiting for your birthday outfit to picking out a Christmas look, that feeling of anticipation was always there. For me, the shoes were a huge part of that excitement.

Over the past year, there have been several shoe styles that fashion enthusiasts simply couldn’t live without — and rightfully so. These pairs have become everyday staples, perfect for everything. So it’s only fitting that they continue to rise in popularity this year. These are the shoes we already know we’ll be seeing everywhere, worn by anyone who truly has a soft spot for great footwear.

Ballet flats

Ballet flats have been the it-girl footwear for me since secondary school. Back then, many of us were already trying to elevate our looks, moving beyond simple black shoes and opting for ballet flats instead. Today, they still hold their place as a fashion-girl staple — only now, they’ve evolved into one of the most comfortable options for everyday wear.

From classic ballerinas and Mary Janes to mesh flats, block-heel ballet pumps, square-toe styles, pointed toes, and ruched designs — the list truly goes on and on. With so much variety, it’s no surprise that ballet flats remain a key wardrobe essential. If any shoe deserves the title of a 2026 fashion staple, it’s this one — and honestly, I can’t wait to wear it all year long.

Sneakers

Another shoe style that will always earn its place on the list is a trusty pair of sneakers. I always tell myself that if you have one perfect pair of sneakers, you don’t really need anything else — figuratively speaking, of course, that’s because if I could, I’d buy as many as possible. But honestly, a good pair of sneakers will take you almost anywhere.

Making a strong return this year, we’re once again expecting to see the iconic Sambas on the feet of every fashion lover. It almost feels unfair how perfect they are, but hey — that’s what you get for being iconic.

To spice things up, there’s also a plethora of sneaker styles to choose from. Sneakerinas, iconic high-tops, and wedge sneakers are all making a noticeable comeback, ballet sneakers (once again — ballet for the win), gorpcore and sculptural & chunky sneakers. One thing is certain: sneakers aren’t going anywhere this year either.

Slingbacks

Slingbacks are one of those classic shoe styles that just work. With the strap sitting pretty around the back of your heel, they give off that open, seamless elegance that works for almost anything. They’ve been around for decades, and they’ve mastered the art of sitting right between casual and dressy. Timeless and versatile, slingbacks work just as well for the office as they do for dates or evening outings.

They’ve always been a favourite among our corporate-chic ladies, and it’s easy to see why. Slingbacks are comfortable, easy to slip into, and instantly elevate  a 9–5. Whether they’re flats, heels, sandals, or wedges, they always know how to finish an outfit. I especially love the range of colours they come in — and how they never fail to look good, no matter the style.

There was a time when spotting someone who was really into style among Nigerian youth was easy — all you had to do was look down at their feet and catch a glimpse of the iconic Dr. Martens loafers. Instant confirmation.

Loafers have long enjoyed a devoted following among young fashion enthusiasts —and it’s easy to see why. They’re versatile, complement almost any outfit, and somehow make you look both corporate and stylish at the same time. It’s no surprise that everyone wants a pair for themselves.

Loafers aren’t the kind of shoe that goes out of style easily, and they come in so many variations — chunky loafers, horsebit loafers,  platform loafers and more. This year, they’re definitely staying on everyone’s radar.

I love a good pair of heels, and I have one trusty pair that is probably tired of me at this point — but I need more people to get back into them. Heels are the ultimate classy go-to: dinners, date nights, events, ceremonies — you name it. When the occasion calls for elegance, heels always show up and show out. As a community, I honestly feel like heels are not getting the love they deserve. Yes, they can be uncomfortable at times — but as the saying goes, beauty is pain, and I truly believe heels are worth it.

Fisherman sandals

Though reminiscent of sandals from a bygone era, these pieces have quietly earned a devoted following, thanks to the Olsen twins’ fashion house, The Row.  As a child, I never understood why anyone would wear them, yet tastes evolve, and now I find myself wanting a pair.

When it comes to functionality, I honestly don’t think anything beats them. Breathable but not too toe-exposing, they’re perfect for beach days or even casual coffee dates. Fisherman sandals are definitely going to be everywhere this year — and I, for one, am here for it.

Kitten heels are classic shoes, defined by their short, slender heel — usually around 1.5 to 2 inches. Taller than flats but far more manageable than stilettos, they’re the perfect go-to for everyday comfort.

These little heels are a chic alternative for both work and casual wear, adding a feminine touch to everything from jeans to tailored trousers. Simple and elegant, kitten heels prove that small details can make a big style statement.
