Slow African fashion to take centre stage at the third edition of ‘Confections x Collections’

This November, Cape Town’s iconic Mount Nelson, a Belmond hotel, will host the highly anticipated third edition of Confections x Collections (CxC) to celebrate Africa’s most talented slow fashion designers.  Offers a platform to showcase diverse African fashion narratives.

Mount Nelson set to become a fashion destination

From November 5-9, 2024, Cape Town’s historic Mount Nelson—affectionately known as “The Nellie”—will become a vibrant space for African creativity. The hotel’s location, a stone’s throw away from leading South African designer studios and boutiques. Provides an ideal backdrop for the fashion-forward event. Visitors will be able to explore exclusive fashion experiences with pieces from the collections displayed at the nearby AKJP concept store on Kloof Street.

Guests will also have the opportunity to book private studio tours with some of Cape Town’s top designers, including Lukhanyo Mdingi, Sindiso Khumalo, and VIVIERS Studio.

This year’s CxC will feature four distinguished designers who have made waves in sustainable African fashion:

Rich Mnisi 

Rich Mnisi design, via Avenue

An award-winning South African designer known for his bold and daring interpretations of Tsonga culture.

Adeju Thompson

Adeju Thompson design, via Avenue

The founder of Lagos Space Programme, renowned for exploring Yoruba culture through contemporary design.






Bubu Ogisi

Bubu Ogisi design, via Avenue

The creative mind behind IAMISIGO, whose innovative textile designs blend traditional African techniques with wearable art.

Lukhanyo Mdingi 

Lukhanyo Mdingi design, via Avenue

Winner of the 2023 Amiri Prize, celebrated for merging artisanal craftsmanship with modern, elegant silhouettes.

Each designer will have their moment in the spotlight, with one designer featured per day, allowing for an intimate showcase of their work.

Fashion-inspired confections

Adding to the immersive experience, Executive Sous Chef Vicky Gurovich will collaborate with the featured designers to create bespoke confections inspired by their collections. These culinary creations will be the centrepiece of a reimagined Afternoon Tea, pairing fashion with food in an innovative way. Guests will also enjoy a special 125th anniversary tea blend crafted by Mingwei Tsai of Nigiro, featuring South African botanical flavours such as rooibos, honeybush, mesquite, and apple.
