Wake up, girls! Jade Osiberu’s Christmas flick is almost here

The official trailer for Jade Osiberu’s highly anticipated film, “Christmas in Lagos,” just dropped. Described as a holiday romantic comedy, the movie follows four friends navigating friendship, love, and loss during the festive season.

The plot centres on Fiyin, who is convinced her best friend, Elo, is her soulmate after a recent heartbreak. Complications arise when Elo returns from New York ready to propose to his secret girlfriend, Yagazie. At the same time, 59-year-old Gbemi is caught between her longtime boyfriend, a former lover, and her high school sweetheart.

Describing the project, the creator of Nollywood hits “Isoken,” and “Gangs of Lagos” said, “We set out to make a film that shows Lagos (and Naija) off in its full Detty December glory, and when the film is out in exactly a month from today, I think you guys will be really proud of the film.”

The holiday romance features a star-studded Nollywood cast, including Shaffy Bello, Wale Ojo, Richard Mofe-Damijo (RMD), Shalom C. Obiago, Rayxia Ojo, Teniola Aladese, Angel Anosike, and Folu Storms.

“Christmas in Lagos” also has cameos from popular singer Ayra Starr, as well as Wurld and Liya. On the decision to have Starr in the movie, Osiberu said, “For me, Ayra Starr represents what it means to be young and female and daring and brave and fearless — just being yourself. She was on the list from day one.”

The soundtrack features songs from legendary musician King Sunny Ade, Afrobeats icon Flavour, and more. The film is the only title to be released under the filmmaker’s three-year output deal with Prime Video during the streaming giant’s short-lived foray into the African market.

“Christmas in Lagos” will debut on Prime Video on December 20, 2024.
