These are our biggest fashion predictions for this festive season

Detty December is officially on, and the fashion game is about to get real. Here’s what we think will have everyone serving looks all month long.

December is finally here, and you can already feel the “detty” in the air. Nigerians, at home and in the diaspora, are planning to show up and out at every event. Those in the diaspora have had their suitcases packed and have been on standby since October. Social media feeds are about to be flooded with the season’s finest fits.

From sparkling party outfits to cosy-chic streetwear, we’re breaking down the fashion pieces we predict will dominate this December.

Full of youthful energy, mini dresses are perfect for concerts, clubs, and parties. Look out for styles with ruching, asymmetric cuts, bubble hems, ruffles, or button details. They’ve been trending all year, and December is no exception.

As a jumpsuit lover myself, you’ll definitely catch me rocking these this December. From wide-leg to halter styles, they’re the ultimate choice for anyone who wants comfort without compromising on style.

Corset tops

The holy grail of fashion. Pair them with jeans, cargo pants, or skirts, and you’ve got a look that works for multiple venues. Expect to see corset tops everywhere this festive season.

Streetwear, utility and casual-chic for relaxed events

Those parachute-style cargos, utility jumpsuits, or anything that looks like you could survive a zombie apocalypse while looking fire? yes. You’ve got room for your phone, lip gloss, snacks and whatever random stuff your friends hand you throughout the night. Practical and hot.

Oversized streetwear and baggy silhouette

Oversize hoodies you can disappear into, baggy tees that feel like pyjamas but look intentional and wide-leg trousers that flutter when you walk. Perfect for outdoor concerts and the after-party nap on someone’s couch.

Casual-chic combos

Throw on a cute denim skirt with an off-shoulder top, and you’re instantly serving looks without trying too hard. Rock a matching lounge set or sweatsuit. That’s the daytime look that can take you straight into the night without a wardrobe change.

You can anticipate seeing a lot of crisp adire two-piece sets, body-skimming mini dresses, and sharp blazers form ready to wear brands like Aries Couture and RUKS Á LA MODE this December.

Aso-oke

The gorgeous hand-woven strip fabric has been making waves all year. We’ve seen it in cropped jackets, bralettes, bomber jackets, and even cargo pants with Aso-oke panels, and it was also a major staple at the 2025 Lagos Fashion Week . We can’t wait to see how it’ll be closing out the year.

Y2K

We’re talking baby tees, butterfly clips, low-rise cargo skirts, crochet tops, and thrifted jackets with a twist. Basically, all the early-2000s nostalgia pieces that always find their way back into our wardrobes — especially when the festive energy hits.

Crochet everything

Tiny crochet bralettes that show just enough, matching crochet mini skirts, see-through crochet cardigans over bikini tops, crochet bucket hats, crochet bags big enough for your wig. It’s handmade, cute, breathable, and very convenient.

Maximalist accessorising & metallic drama

Chunky metallic jewellery

Think supersized earrings, layered necklaces, and dramatic bracelets. Gold, silver, and rose gold will be everywhere, especially to elevate evening looks. Expect a lot of layering of waist beads, bangles, belts, chains and the like.

Statement bags & heels

Accessories are designed to be focal points. Expect statement bags, the return of the Y2K shoulder bag and highly embellished, attention-grabbing footwear.

Owambe slay

Everybody is going to be doing the “waist where” corset bodice right now.  This dominant trend uses the bodice, often incorporating lace or sheer panels to perfectly cinch the waist, giving a highly feminine, snatched silhouette. Expect to see it all through the festive season.

Two-piece ensembles (skirt & blouse):

December: Rose pink lace skirt and blouse with Chantilly lace

For ultimate comfort and versatility, the fitted blouse and matching maxi skirt set has always been a trend. This offers an elegant look while still allowing for freedom of movement for dancing.

Heavy jewellery

If your neck isn’t layered in necklaces and pendants, if your ears aren’t carrying actual chandeliers, if your fingers don’t have at least one ring the size of a small doughnut, it wouldn’t be an owambe. You can expect everyone to be fully blinged out throughout next month

Tiny statement clutch

For the owambe season, no more office bags or backpacks, we anticipate micro beaded purses, fan-shaped clutches, or little structured boxes dripping in crystals or Aso-oke. Just big enough for a phone, lipstick, and all the money you’re about to collect.

See you outside

December is going to be a long fashion marathon, especially for the “we outside” ladies , and we’re all going to be doing our best to look good while surviving Lagos traffic and back-to-back events. Wear what makes you feel confident, comfortable, and ready for whatever chaotic plot twist December throws your way. If you’re having fun and your outfit looks good, that’s a major win.

So here’s to a month of slaying effortlessly, dancing till your feet hurt, collecting memories and serving looks all through the hottest month of the year.
