There’s a new skin favourite on the block. All the go-to beauty influencers had been talking about the Uncover line of skincare products and so I decided to see for myself what all the hype was about.
What caught my attention
Uncover is a Nigerian skincare brand that creates products formulated for dark-skin conditions like hyperpigmentation. I love how the brand promotes beauty in all forms. They present acne, hyperpigmentation and scars not as a problem but as flourishing skin because let’s face it, these conditions are normal, especially for dark-skinned women.
In addition to this, each product comes with affirmations like “I am enough” printed on them, a unique but welcome approach to skincare. I believe every skin deserves care and love and Uncover’s marketing echoes this sentiment.
What did I get?
Available on the website, I got the Sunscreen and the Licorice dark spot correcting serum, a new product that was released in September this year. I also got some sheet masks to calm and deeply hydrate my skin during my travels because of the constant change in weather.
Is it any good?
I have been told that I have great skin but hyperpigmentation is something that I have never really found a solution for. On one hand, I can’t stop picking at pimples when they form (even though they don’t form that frequently) and on the other hand, I scar pretty easily. It was not the biggest issue I had and I was ready to be patient with the outcome.
Enter the Licorice dark spot correcting serum, a lightweight serum that is meant to be applied infrequently to the skin. The direction on the pack says to apply a pea-sized amount on the skin and to use it about 3 times a week. I was also happy with the texture of the sunscreen, it was very moisturising and did not sting my eyes or leave a white cast. Definitely black girl-friendly.
After 6 weeks of using the dark spot-correcting serum, alongside the sunscreen, I saw visible improvements with my old dark spots, they had faded considerably. New dark spots also fade quickly without changing my skin tone and complexion.
My new skincare favourite
Suffice to say, I am a fan of these products and the brand itself. The sheet masks are one of the best ones I’ve used in a while. It sinks into my skin without feeling uncomfortable or sticky. Now I want to try other Uncover products like the toner and moisturiser. Thankfully, there is a Black Friday discount for a skincare bundle and I cannot wait to get my hands on it.
