Paris 2024 Paralympics Update: Esther Nworgu lifts record-breaking 118 kg

Nigeria’s Esther Nworgu has smashed two new Paralympics records, lifting a whopping 112 kg on her second attempt and 118 kg on her third attempt in the women’s 41 kg category. She is now in 2nd place, clinching the silver medal for Nigeria.

The competition heated up as China’s Zhe Cui broke Nworgu’s record with an impressive 113 kg and, subsequently, 119 kg, quickly reclaiming the lead and securing the gold medal position.

Nworgu’s journey to greatness transcends the 2024 Paris Paralympics. In 2022, she etched her name in powerlifting history by shattering the world record with an astounding 114 kg lift, surpassing the previous 111 kg record set by Guo Lingling. This remarkable feat solidified her status as a powerhouse in powerlifting, showcasing her unparalleled strength and determination on the global stage.

That same year, she delivered an outstanding performance at the 2022 Africa Paralympics Powerlifting Championship in Cairo, Egypt, where she dominated by claiming eight gold medals.

Nworgu’s triumph at the second edition of the National Para Games in Abuja in 2023 further proves her remarkable abilities. Her gold medal victory, achieved by lifting an impressive total of 112 kg, not only highlights her physical strength but also reinforces her firm dedication and skill in powerlifting.

She also displayed her prowess on the global stage by earning a well-deserved silver medal at the World Paralympics Powerlifting Tournament held in Dubai in 2023, further solidifying her position as a powerlifting sensation.
