Paris 2024 Olympics Update: Tobi Amusan waltz to 100-meter hurdle semifinals in grand style

Tobi Amusan, the current world record holder in the women’s 100-meter hurdles, is through to the event’s semifinals at the 2024 Paris Olympics. She finished first in the women’s 100m hurdles heat in 12.49 seconds against Johnson of the US’s 12.61 seconds, who comes in second place to qualify for the semifinals.

Favour Ofili, the Nigerian sprinter, concluded her 200m campaign at the Paris Olympic Games with a sixth-place finish, crossing the line in 22.24s.

Ofili achieved her season’s best of 22.05s, finishing second behind St Lucia’s Julien Alfred in the semi-finals. Her impressive performance of 22.05 earned her an automatic spot in the finals.

Oborududu fails to secure a bronze medal in wrestling

Blessing Oborududu missed out on her shot for the bronze medal after suffering a 3-0 defeat to Nonoka Ozaki from Japan in the Women’s Freestyle 68 kg event at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Oborududu, World number 6 and Tokyo 2020 Olympics silver medallist, had defeated Canada’s Linda Morais for a quarterfinals round 8-2 spot before knocking out France’s Koumba Larrouque, ranked World No. 3 wrestler, in the quarter-final 6-2 but lost to Meerim Zhumanazarova of Kyrgyzstan 1-3 in her bid to book a place in the final.






Onojuvwevwo has made it to the women’s 400-meter semifinals

Ella Onojuvwevwo is through to the women’s 400m semi-finals after initially missing out on an automatic qualifying spot by placing 6th in the heats. The Nigerian came to the repechage round with a well-planned race and finished ahead of other athletes in the race in 50.59s, her second best this season.

Nigerian women athletes excel in Olympics Long Jump

The trio comprising 2021 bronze Olympics medalist Brume, newcomers Usoro, and Ochonogor have all made it to the final round of the long jump event after a spectacular performance on Tuesday. This makes them the first Nigerian trio to make the final of an individual event at the Olympics.

Ese Brume, a bronze medallist in the event at Tokyo 2020, powered to a mark of 6.76m in her third attempt to finish second in the Group A qualifying stage.

Closely followed is Ruth Usoro, who won gold in the triple jump at the African Games. She started with a massive foul in the region of 7 meters before delivering 6.68 meters to finish third in the group behind Brume in the Group A qualifying stage.

Canoe duo set for finals

Ayomide Bello and Beauty Otuedo, two Nigerian canoeing duo, have secured their spots in the final B of the women’s canoe doubles 500m event. They finished fifth in the first heat of the quarterfinals, getting to the line at 2:07.86.
