Paris 2024 Olympics Update: Tobi Amusan to try again for a spot in 200m finals

World record holder in the Women’s 100m Hurdles, Tobi Amusan, lost out on automatic qualification after finishing third place in the 2024 Paris Olympics with 12.55 seconds in the semifinals of the women’s 100m hurdles Heat.

US representative Grave Stark won first place, finishing in 12.39 seconds, closely followed by Bahamas representative Devynne Charlton, who came in second place with 12.50 seconds to qualify for the semifinals.

Amusan will have another chance to secure a spot in the finals in the repechage (rescue) round.

Brume, Usoro, and Ochonogor fail to secure medals in the Long Jump

After qualifying for the women’s long jump final, Ese Brume, Ruth Usoro, and Prestina Ochonogor failed to make it to the top three in the women’s long jump event.

Brume, who secured the bronze at Tokyo 2020, achieved a 6.70m jump to secure the 5th position in the final, while Ruth Usoro and Ochonogor landed in 10th and 12th place with jumps of 6.58m and 6.24m, respectively.

Aderuokoye falls 10-8 to Hong Kexin

Odunayo Adekuoroye faced a tough defeat against China’s Kexin Hong, losing 10-8 in the polls for the 57 kg quarterfinal at the Paris Olympics.

World No. 3 and three-time Commonwealth Champion Adekuoroye showed resilience by winning against Chaimaa Aouiss from Algeria in the Round of 16 earlier that day.

She will have a chance at a bronze medal if Hong makes it to the finals so that she can compete in the repechage round.

The quartet of Justina Eyakpobeyan, Favour Ofili, Rosemary Chukwuma and Tima Godbless failed to qualify for the women’s 400m finals after the team finished 6th with a season’s best of 42.70 seconds, missing out on both an automatic and repechage round for a retry.
