The ninth edition of West Africa’s International art fair, ART X Lagos, has ended, and we’re excited to share our favourite moments from this year’s event. The event kicked off on
Thursday, October 31, 2024, with a press preview and ended on Sunday, November 3, 2024 with the Art X Live event.
The founder of ART X Lagos, Tokini Peterside-Schwebig, shared that this year’s edition, themed ‘Promise Lands,’ is aimed at presenting a cross-section of artists making unique contributions to the visual arts ecosystem and reinforce ART X Lagos’ mission to promote artistic excellence and cross-cultural collaboration.
Here are our most memorable moments from the 2024 edition of ArtXLagos

Through a fusion of cinematography and bold narratives, a specially curated screening of films by African filmmakers, along with discussions by prominent figures, including a conversation with Andrew Dosunmu and panels, offered unique perspectives on the impact of African music genres on contemporary pop culture.
It was an experience that allowed spectators to appreciate the efforts of filmmakers and the people behind the stories.
The diverse collection of art
Ten curated galleries from cities including Lagos, Harare, Accra, Cotonou, Zimbabwe, and London showcased a plethora of art from artists across different art forms, including sculpture, painting, and installations.

In line with the theme, the carefully curated selection of 10 exhibitors offered a unique lens into how artists imagine and interpret the lands we dream of – both real and imagined.
A special exhibition in collaboration with Afreximbank showcased works by African and Caribbean artists delving into ancestral connections and future possibilities.
The live performances at ART X Live
As always, music was an integral part of this year’s edition, as the event featured performances from @officialayuba, @cruelsantino, @s_smart_oja with creative music direction by @odunsitheengine.
From Fuji to contemporary alternative sounds, each artist delivered amazing performances that had attendees on their feet and dancing.
Recognising Etinosa Yvonne
In a previous article, we spotlighted Etinosa as one of the women using art to challenge societal norms. Hence, it was no surprise when she was honoured with the Access ART X Prize Alumni Impact Award. The organizers also shared that the recognition “not only celebrates Etinosa’s remarkable contributions, but sustained her impact on Africa’s vibrant artistic and cultural landscape.”
Remembering the heroes
A heartwarming addition to this year’s edition was the opportunity to honour and showcase the virtues of some unsung heroes, including the late Hebert Wigwe, former CEO of Access Bank, who was a lover of arts and prime sponsor of the annual exhibition.
Others honoured were Jonathan Adagogo Green, Nigeria’s first professional photographer, August Agboola Browne; the first West African to record a jazz sound, and Nana Asma’u; a poet and teacher.
Overall, this year’s edition of the ART X Lagos was a celebration of artistic excellence and showed an appreciation for all forms of African art.
