At 15 I learnt how to apply makeup in the university of social media, playing with my mother’s Lancôme lipstick and experimenting to see what worked for my face. It was a messy but fun process, and every outcome was progress on my way to perfect-looking makeup.
Now, my makeup routine is always the same. Where did all the fun go?
Pink or edgy?
Last Friday, #MesswithLancôme came to Lagos, Nigeria, and I put together an edgy look for the occasion. The invitation said “edgy or pink”, and try as I may, I’m not a pink girl.
With this campaign, Lancôme pushes boundaries beyond the clean girl aesthetic it has been popular for and embraces many other aesthetics. Whether you’re a barbie girl with girlie charm, or you’re more like me, dressed in edgy-grunge fashion and with a darker aesthetic, Lancôme is for you.
The event attracted beauty creators and influencers, and I got to see one of my favourite makeup artists, Anita Adeoye popularly known as Anita Brows, teach a masterclass full of tips and tricks using Lancôme products.
Learning new tricks at Lancôme’s Messterclass
I pride myself in knowing a number of tricks that ensure a flawless beat almost consistently, but I picked up on a new one that is now a part of my routine.
Did you know that massaging in your skin prep products makes for a smoother base? Using Lancôme’s serum and hydrating primer, we got to see complexion products sit even better on the skin.
Also, there are no rules to makeup. Using one product for multiple areas, like bronzer for eyeshadow or lipstick for blush, is one of my favourite tricks to cut down on glam time and get that monochromatic look that I love so much.
I love how brands like Lancôme are redefining beauty, breaking all the rules and getting every woman in on it. It’s less about being perfect and more about having fun with your appearance. I enjoyed music, food and conversation with other women while trying on beauty products that reminded me that at the end of the day, girls just wanna have fun
