Flutterwave gears up for global leap with star architect Olajumoke Adenowo on board

Olajumoke Adenowo

Flutterwave, Africa’s leading startup in value, has recently appointed Nigerian architect Olajumoke Adenowo to its global board of directors. This strategic move is part of Flutterwave’s ongoing efforts to expand its international reach. Adenowo, renowned for her extensive architectural experience, becomes Flutterwave’s first independent non-executive board member. Her role is anticipated to strengthen the company’s pan-African and global strategy, according to a statement released by Flutterwave.

Olajumoke Adenowo, whose career in architecture spans over 35 years, has been recognized for her innovative work and was described by CNN as “Africa’s Starchitect.” Flutterwave’s CEO, Olugbenga GB Agboola, expressed that Adenowo’s strategic insights are expected to significantly contribute to the company’s mission of developing innovative solutions and impactful change across Africa and other markets.

“Flutterwave means so much more to me, to us, than a Fintech company it’s evidence of my mantra ‘Africa must evolve its own solutions'” – Olajumoke Adenowo

Adenowo herself has articulated a commitment to leveraging her global exposure and understanding of African heritage to aid Flutterwave’s mission of connecting African markets with the global economy. She is the principal of AD Consulting, an architectural firm involved in numerous local and international projects. Adenowo’s achievements include being the first African and first black architect to be published by Rizzoli through her book, “Neo Heritage: Defining Contemporary African Architecture.” She was also recognized with the Forbes Woman African Entrepreneur of the Year Award in 2020.

As Flutterwave considers an Initial Public Offering (IPO) on the NASDAQ, its expansion into new markets, including a recent move into India, highlights its aggressive growth strategy. Since its establishment in 2016, Flutterwave has expanded its presence to around 30 African countries. The addition of Adenowo to the board comes at a time when the company is reinforcing its leadership team following the appointment of five new executives across various departments.

Olajumoke Adenowo’s addition to Flutterwave’s board highlights the fintech’s strategic push for innovation and broader market reach, emphasizing its commitment to driving economic empowerment and connectivity between Africa and the world. This step transcends typical corporate appointments, serving as a powerful endorsement of African women’s role in shaping global narratives. Under Adenowo’s stewardship, Flutterwave is set to transcend traditional financial landscapes, embodying a future that champions African innovation and female leadership at its core.
