CAF Awards 2023: Nigeria’s Super Falcons win ‘Women’s Team of the Year’

The 11th of December marked a day of celebration for Nigerians and Nigerian women in football as Asisat Oshoala, Chiamaka Nadozie, and Nigeria’s Super Falcons received multiple awards at the Confederation of African Football (CAF) awards. 

At this event, Nigerian Super Falcons and Barcelona Club player Asisat Oshoala was named the ‘Women’s Player of the Year’ for the sixth time. This was due to her exceptional performances at the Spanish League (Spain Liga (F)) and the UEFA Champions League at the club level. In a celebratory post, Asisat credited loved ones and teammates at club and country levels for their support.

Chiamaka Nadozie also received the ‘Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year’ award for her performance at the UEFA Champions League for Paris FC and Nigeria. In an appreciation post made on Instagram, Chiamaka expressed her appreciation for Nigerians and her teammates for their support. She congratulated Asisat Oshoala and Victor Osimhen on their wins at the CAF Awards. 

 

“I am short of words for this milestone and sincerely don’t know where to start from, as this is a dream come true for my family and me.”

The Nigerian Super Falcons received the ‘National Women’s Team of the Year’ award at the CAF awards ceremony.

 

These wins are a testament to the tenacity of Nigerian women in all spheres. From the national to the international stage, Nigerian women in sports are showing yet another height that young girls worldwide can aspire to reach.
