A return to the Grand Palais: Chanel releases a soaring spring-summer 2025 collection

Chanel’s spring-summer 2025 ready-to-wear show in Paris took center stage at the magnificently restored Grand Palais, synonymous with the brand’s most memorable presentations. As a major patron of this Parisian landmark, Chanel played a pivotal role in its recent restoration, breathing new life into the historic space for its first grand show since the refurbishment.

A grand return to the Grand Palais

The show began with a powerful visual, as model Nigina Sharipova opened the doors of the newly named ‘Gabrielle Chanel’ entrance—an homage to the house’s legendary founder. Sharipova, dressed in a striking black jumpsuit with a feathered collar, commanded the space beneath the venue’s iconic glass roof, setting the tone for the collection’s theme of flight and freedom. The Grand Palais, with its stunning glass dome and open expanse, served as the perfect backdrop, enhancing the airy, ethereal feel of the collection.

A collection that soars

Chanel’s spring-summer 2025 collection paid tribute to movement and lightness. The collection featured soft, flowing silhouettes and delicate materials such as chiffon and silk, all accented by feathers, sequins, and detailed embroidery. Highlights included a sky-blue feather-trimmed cape paired with flared jeans and a black satin shirtdress adorned with embroidered feathers. The designs seemed to float, capturing the idea of flight in every stitch and detail.

The colour palette ranged from sky blues and pastel hues to classic blacks and shimmering silver, evoking the changing colours of the sky and the notion of freedom—light, airy fabrics combined with structured tailoring balanced feminine elegance and modern strength.

A tribute to fearless women

This collection was more than just a visual masterpiece—it was a tribute to women who break free from the constraints of societal expectations, just as Gabrielle Chanel did. Inspired by trailblazing aviators, daring artists, and influential figures like Colette, the collection celebrated women who have redefined freedom. Aviator jackets, flight suits, and Peter Pan-collared dresses brought these themes to life, channeling nostalgia and modernity.

An enchanting setting

The show’s décor was just as enchanting as the garments themselves. A monumental birdcage stood at the venue’s heart, symbolising captivity and the desire for liberation. This structure, reminiscent of a famous birdcage once owned by Gabrielle Chanel, underscored the theme of flight and freedom. The open bars of the cage created a fantastical, dreamlike atmosphere, mirroring the lightness and openness of the collection. Guests were seated in a garden-inspired arrangement, surrounded by nature as the collection’s ethereal pieces floated down the runway.
