Butter yellow has found a place in my heart, thanks to these Nigerian fashion brands doing it right.
There’s something about September that always feels like a reset. New energy, new goal-setting for the next quarter, and of course, new style moments from Fashion Week — like the colour I can’t get enough of. For the debut of Editor’s Corner, I’m spotlighting a colour that feels just right for this season: Butter yellow.
I have unconsciously worn outfits in this colour a few times in the past month because it’s cheerful without being loud and chic without trying too hard. The most exciting thing for me as a lover of Nigerian fashion is how designers are giving it fresh, innovative spins that make it irresistible.
Each outfit found its natural rhythm at The Terrace Lagos, showing how butter yellow translates into real lifestyle moments — whether you’re having brunch or showing up to a fashion event. The location elevated the narrative: structured co-ord against modern edges, a retro-romantic midi dress flowing into greenery, and a bold mini dress lighting up the nightlife. The Terrace is the perfect representation of how Lagos fashion and lifestyle collide.
With this edit, I’ve curated three standout Nigerian-made looks in butter yellow, in ways that highlight versatility, ease, and a touch of playfulness. Let’s dive in.

The effortless co-ord by TwentySix

There’s a reason co-ords have stayed in the fashion conversation and are also my go-to pick any day. They’re easy, elevated, and endlessly versatile. For this look, I styled a matching set from TwentySix, featuring their Yellow Cotton Bib Blouse and Yellow Cotton Double Pleat Pants.
The bib blouse is a playful piece that adds dimension to any outfit. Layered over a classic white tee, it creates a striking contrast that makes you look twice. There’s a variety variety of styling options with the blouse. A collared shirt would have also elevated this look.
The wide-leg trousers are the real star. It’s long, structured and comfortable — just how I like my trousers. This pair is fun, perfect for both casual and dressed-up settings. These trousers can easily transition from Fridays at the office to a fancy gallery opening, or even a relaxed dinner date.
I accessorised with a burgundy mini bag for a pop of contrast, silver ballet flats, and silver jewellery. The metallic touch and the burgundy add depth to the sunny palette. Since adding this set to my wardrobe, I’ve restyled the pants with a simple black top and received compliments each time.
Founded by Desola Falomo, TwentySix is known for its intentional tailoring and playful interpretations of everyday staples. I might be biased, but I believe they make some of the best trousers I’ve seen from a Nigerian brand. They’re cut with comfort in mind but are always stylish.
This outfit felt right at home at The Terrace Lagos. Working against the backdrop of the sleek and polished seating, it balances comfort with edge and function with style. Perfect for brunches, casual meetings, or low-key evenings, it translates beautifully into everyday Lagos life.

Alternative styling tips
Swap the silver flats for strappy heels and the mini bag for a clutch, and you’re instantly event-ready.
Layer the bib blouse over a shirt dress and style with loafers for a chic street style look.
Pair the trousers with sneakers and an oversized shirt for a laid-back weekend vibe.

The butter yellow cottage-core dream by Shop Mona

If butter yellow brings freshness, this Celine Midi Dress from Shop Mona delivers it in a wistful and romantic way. The brand’s signature elevated basics are on full display with this dress. Clean cuts and playful details catch the eye without screaming for attention. Shop Mona serves women who want easy-to-wear and intentional pieces. Their summer essentials collection caught my eye for its excellent combination of comfort and elevated design.
This midi dress feels like a love letter to cottage-core. Made of soft cotton, it features a gathered waist that flows into a layered design, flowing down to the ankles. Its movement is dramatic with every step, and the actor in me couldn’t help but feel like I was in a vintage montage. The bust of the dress is ruched with protruding pleats at the top, adding a dash of sculptural interest. I love how it frames my chest area without squeezing. As a fan of versatile pieces, I appreciate how the puff sleeves can be styled off-the-shoulder (my go-to because I love showing off my shoulders), or up for a more modest look.
Owned by Ifunanya IBE, Shop Mona plays beautifully with colour, and this dress feels like a staple piece with its own personality. Its flowy silhouette and the way the colour catches light make this dress a dream.
I styled this with white kitten-heel slippers, a multicoloured necklace for a fun, playful contrast and a white top-handle bag for some structure.
The soft lighting at The Terrace Lagos was the perfect match for this dress. With its soft silhouette, it mirrors the romantic energy of the green and airy design of the restaurant.
Alternative styling tips
For an evening look or a slightly more formal event, swap the slippers for strappy sandals, and maybe add a silk scarf to play more into the cottage-core vibe.
For a picnic or outdoor brunch, add a textured hat and play up the accessories for a more dramatic look. Don’t forget your oversized sunnies.

Night-out glam with Oyiza

The moment I saw this dress, I knew it would make me feel sexy and confident. The Sisi Mini Dress from Oyiza shows off just enough skin. It is a fun, flirty mini version of their best-seller Sisi Eko dress. This mini captures everything this season of my life is about: personality, bold colour, and unapologetic femininity.
Oyiza is a new but fast-rising Nigerian brand, founded by Omotorera Awotimide. They make contemporary womenswear for the unforgettable woman. Their pieces make you want to dress up and look fabulous.
The dress features mesh fabric with a slight stretch that hugs your shape comfortably, a plunging neckline, adjustable spaghetti straps, a concealed zip, and a dramatic scarf.
I styled it with a beige clutch, strappy block-heel gold sandals (to elongate my legs) and gold jewellery for added sparkle. Since the dress itself is eye-catching, the accessories needed just enough shine to complement and not distract from it.
The Sisi Mini dress butter yellow is playful with all the details combined and is perfect for date nights, girls’ night out or upscale evenings. It’s the perfect party outfit that says fun, confidence, and presence. Think rooftop dinners, cocktail bars or anywhere that captures light and movement. The neck scarf is the icing on top, adding that retro glam look.
This dress shines best when the light dims at The Terrace Lagos. The details echo the nightlife vibe of the bar with Lagos twinkling in the background. In a moment like that, I felt like a Sisi Eko.

Alternative styling tips
Style the scarf either draped over your shoulders or tied dramatically as a shawl to add a vintage theatre vibe.
Pair with stilettos and complement with bold red lipstick for a more sexy glam look.
