The semi-final clash at the Stade Mohammed V stadium in Casablanca delivered high drama and last-minute heroics. The Falcons took the lead in the 44th minute of the match during a tense first half. The breakthrough came when a South African defender was penalised for handling the ball inside the penalty area after trying to block a cross delivered by Nigerian forward Folashade Ijamilusi. The referee immediately pointed to the spot, awarding Nigeria a penalty kick. Team captain Rasheedat Ajibade converted the penalty, sending the goalkeeper the wrong way and putting Nigeria 1–0 ahead just moments before halftime.

South Africa responded quickly after the break and found their equaliser in the 60th minute. The turning point came when Nigerian defender Osinachi Ohale was penalised for pulling down a South African attacker inside the penalty box during a tense moment of play. The referee awarded a penalty, and midfielder Linda Motlhalo levelled the score to 1–1

As the match edged through extra time, Nigeria struck a decisive blow. In the 94th minute, defender Michelle Alozie launched a hopeful long ball into the South African box, sealing a dramatic 2–1 victory.

Speaking after the match, Ajibade admitted the team faced difficult moments but credited their resilience and self-belief for their victory.

“We had to remind ourselves who we are. We are Nigerians and we are champions,” the captain said.

With the win, Nigeria advances to their 10th WAFCON final. The team’s “Mission X” — a symbolic pursuit of a record-extending 10th title is now within reach.

The Falcons will face host nation Morocco in the final on Saturday, 26 July 2025, in Rabat. Both sides are unbeaten in the tournament and will be looking to cap their campaigns with silverware.
