Moët & Chandon collaborated with Nigerian designer, Banke Kuku in a dazzling fusion of heritage and innovation to unveil a masterpiece collection for Champagne Day in Victoria Island, on October 25th. Inspired by Banke’s transformative journey to Épernay—the heart of Moët & Chandon’s 280-year legacy—this exclusive creation pays homage to the Maison’s commitment to exceptional craftsmanship while seamlessly integrating Kuku’s contemporary African artistry.
Banke Kuku’s journey through Moët & Chandon’s vineyards in Epernay in France revealed a shared ethos between her design philosophy and the artistry of French champagne-making: a devotion to meticulous detail, reverence for tradition, and an unbounded embrace of creativity.
“What captivated me during my time in Épernay was the spirit of endless creativity and refinement in every bottle. It’s a place where tradition flows into modernity, crafting excellence at every turn,” Kuku shared.
Design significance by Banke Kuku
Her creations beautifully capture this dynamic, weaving together the precision of French winemaking with the bold storytelling of Nigerian culture, where vibrant colour and rich symbolism celebrate life in every stitch.
At the heart of Kuku’s design are motifs representing the three essential grape varietals—Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Meunier—that define Moët & Chandon’s iconic blends.
The design is further elevated by intricate inscriptions in Igbo, Yoruba, and Hausa, with the phrase ‘There is no party without Moët & Chandon.’ This multilingual tribute not only honours the Nigerian culture of celebration but also reflects Moët & Chandon’s significance as a symbol of celebration across regions. The green hues woven into the fabric represent the landscapes of Nigeria and Épernay, further deepening the connection between the two heritages.
