MAC Cosmetics’ no-makeup makeup routine, as seen at the Lagos Canvas

We enjoyed some stunning makeup looks at the Lagos Canvas last Tuesday, thanks to MAC Cosmetics’ range of products that give a skin-like finish. Watching the makeup artists and seeing each product work in real time from prep to finished work was so magical. It’s not magic though, it’s makeup!

PS: You can find most of these products at an Essenza store near you.

Fix+ Magic Radiance/Original

Prep your skin with MAC’s Fix+ magic radiance mist. This mist is a super hydrating formula that is a great base for all the products to sit. It currently goes for ₦67,000.

Studio moisture cream

Double hydration? Yes, please! The studio moisture cream is not only hydrating, it’s luminous, containing strobe particles and acting as an illuminator that adds a natural glow to the skin. You can find this for ₦43,000.

Natural radiance primer

Made with a silky gel formula, the radiance primer gave our models a natural airbrushed look. It’s the step before complexion products, and it’s clear the effect it has on the skin, making a smooth canvas for everything else.

Our makeup artist spoke about the skincare benefits of this product, and our models could attest to how lightweight it felt on their skin. With great coverage too, now, what’s not to love?

Studio fix foundation

I want 14 of these, and I want them now. Each shade was a smooth and natural application and very little went a long way. Even more exciting, it contains SPF 15 for a little extra protection. It sells for N41,000.

Mineralize Skin Finish powder

At ₦81,000, you get a gentle but equally hydrating finishing powder that is sure to let your skin breath and keep with that natural inner glow.

Glow play blush

In its bouncy cushion packaging, this product was equally fun and effective, contributing to that natural glow we loved to see on the Lagos Canvas runway.

Smolder eyeliner

One of my favourite pencils, the MAC Smolder Eyeliner, in whatever shade, gives a smooth and deep application. Perfect for smokey eyes and coloured lining.

Stud pro brow pencil

For subtle definition, the Stud Pro with its double-sided pencil and brush are perfect. The applicator is thin, giving the faintest strokes, while the brush is astute in putting your eyebrow hairs in a desired shape.

In extreme dimension mascara

The wand fits the shape of the eye perfectly, and the many tiny bristles are sure to catch every single lash hair, defining it to perfection. Retailing for ₦59,000, you might want to get your hands on this one.

Lipglass Clear/Oh baby Lipglass

I will always need more gloss, no explanation needed. On that note alone, I believe I need the Clear or Oh Baby Lipglass with its golden shimmers in my collection.

Chestnut lip pencils

Yet another creamy formula, the lip pencils, especially in the chestnut shade, is perfect for the brown girl lip liner look. Pair this with any of the glosses, and step into your black girl magic.

It’s all makeup, but with MAC, it was also a magical experience. Curating the Lagos Canvas was as holistic as it was beautiful, and it was a delight to partner with brands that embrace the spirit of Lagos.
