Women are leading the 2025 BET nominee list, with Ayra Starr at the top for Africa

The 2025 BET Awards nominations are out, and Ayra Starr is the most nominated African artist.

The 2025 BET Awards is shaping up to be unforgettable, celebrating 25 years of Black excellence. Ayra Starr leads African nominees with three nods: “Best Female R&B/Pop Artist,” “Best New Artist,” and “Best International Act.” All well-deserved nominations for the star.

Tems also bagged a nomination for the “BET Her” award for her songs “Burning” and “Hold On.” from her debut album. Other Nigerian artists nominated include: Rema, for “Best International Act,” and Shallipopi for “Best New International  Act.”

Set to air live on June 9, 2025, from the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles, the award ceremony will be hosted by comedian Kevin Hart and will celebrate the best in Black music, entertainment, and culture from around the world.

Kendrick Lamar is dominating the 2025 BET Awards with 10 nominations, largely thanks to his surprise album GNX and the massive success of his diss track “Not Like Us.” Closely following him are Doechii, Drake, Future, and GloRilla, each securing six nominations. Other notable artists with multiple nominations include Metro Boomin, SZA, and The Weeknd.
