The 2025 Met Gala guests served looks, drama, and unforgettable fashion moments that honoured Black dandyism in all its opulence.
The 2025 Met Gala was a celebration of Superfine: Tailoring Black Style, a theme that asked guests to dig deep, think sharp, and show up tailored impeccably. Did they deliver? Absolutely. The night was an ode to Black elegance, power, and flair—drawing from the style legacies of André Leon Talley, W.E.B. Du Bois, and Ozwald Boateng. The book “Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity” by Monica L. Miller also served as a significant inspiration for this year’s Met Gala theme.
This wasn’t a night for ball gowns and safety; it was a night for impeccable tailoring, to embrace the artistry of Black dandyism, and to show how fashion can be both personal and political. Here are the best-dressed celebrities at the 2025 Met Gala; they understood the assignment and tailored it to perfection.
Teyana Taylor’s Harlem Rose blooms
One of the early arrivals at the 2025 Met Gala steps, Teyana Taylor stole the spotlight and shut down the internet with her look. Styled by the legendary Ruth E. Carter and designed by both her and Teyana, the star arrived in an opulent Marc Jacobs ensemble that redefined what “tailored for you” means. Her crimson cape embroidered with “Harlem Rose,” an ode to her 2018 song “Rose in Harlem”, was draped exquisitely in a charcoal and crimson striped suit, and a dramatic cane. This ensemble was equal parts fashion, history, and storytelling. Accessorised with multiple brooches, a boutonniere, chains and a feathered hat with a durag underneath, this was sartorial poetry.
Colman Domingo in Valentino: King of suits
It’s impossible to talk about the 2025 Met Gala’s best dressed list without discussing co-chair Colman Domingo. Wearing two custom Valentino looks, he walked the carpet like royalty in a pleated blue cape with an ivory linen bolero—a nod to André Leon Talley’s iconic 2011 kaftan. As usual, when he revealed a second look underneath the cape, it was a masterclass in tailored layering. A black and butter check double-breasted jacket with pearl and crystal embroidery, styled with wide-leg wool trousers, a butter silk shirt, and an ivory vest. A polka dot tie and bold boutonniere sealed it with dandy charm, both looks were stitched with intention.
Jodie Turner-Smith: A British dandy moment
Never one to miss an opportunity to dress up, Jodie Turner-Smith painted the 2025 Met Gala carpet in a burgundy extravaganza. Her custom Burberry layered look brought Belle Époque equestrian energy with an edgy twist. The top hat, cinched waist, flowy leather coat, and the overall silhouette merged British tailoring with Black femininity. Drawing inspiration from Selina Lazevski, a 19th-century Black equestrian, her look bridged history and modernity—an impeccable display of superfine Black style.
Ayo Edebiri brings Edo elegance to Ferragamo
As a Nigerian, the moment Ayo Edebiri arrived at the 2025 MET Gala, our jaws dropped. She understood the assignment and then rewrote it in Ferragamo. Her custom look by Maximilian Davis, inspired by her roots, the traditional Edo attire from Nigeria, was everything — regal, refined, and deeply rooted in culture. The coral and maroon bead work reminded me of royalty at Nigerian weddings. Styled with a sleek leather trench and sheer gloves, it was modern, moody, and unapologetically Nigerian. We couldn’t be more proud.
Mona Patel: A show-stopping moment with Thom Browne
Indian-American entrepreneur Mona Patel made yet another unforgettable entrance at the 2025 Met Gala, and this time, it wasn’t only the outfit. Alongside her custom Thom Browne suit, Patel stole the spotlight with Vector, her actual robotic dog on a diamond-studded leash. The futuristic canine, inspired by Browne’s iconic dachshund Hector, was a playful yet chic addition to her ensemble. With this look, Patel seamlessly blends technology with couture, all while paying homage to her roots with the dramatic Indian-inspired hat. The spine detail at the back? Iconic.
Rihanna: A quiet storm at the 2025 MET Gala
Fashion’s ultimate closer, Rihanna, revealed her third pregnancy in a sculpted custom Marc Jacobs outfit featuring a cropped jacket, bustier, and flowy skirt. Balancing power and grace, it was the softest power play and absolutely impactful. Her entire look was perfectly tailored for her and the cutest baby bump.
Tracee Ellis Ross: A vibrant, joyful statement
Never have we ever seen a Tracee Ellis Ross flop; this year’s bold return to the Met Gala in a vibrant Marc Jacobs pink pantsuit was a reminder that she simply never will. The voluminous silhouette and hot pink bow sash exuded joy and artistry, while the maroon blazer and dusty-rose wide-brimmed hat added layers of chic elegance. This look effortlessly combines her signature playfulness and sophistication, making a truly unforgettable fashion statement.
Lupita Nyong’o: A vision in Chanel
Looking superfine and heroic in pastel, Chanel ambassador Lupita Nyong’o dazzled in an elegant custom aquamarine lurex wool exaggerated suit by Chanel. A nod to look No. 67 from Chanel’s autumn-winter 2015/16 haute couture collection; this stunning piece perfectly captured Lupita’s impeccable sense of style and the timeless craftsmanship of the brand.
Joey King: MET Gala debut in dazzling detail
Joey King made a striking debut at the 2025 Met Gala in a green kid mohair embroidered Miu Miu suit. Tailored for her, the suit was embellished with mirrored crystals, paired with a contrasting printed gazarres shirt, and accessorised with a jacquard necktie. To complete the look, she added an ascot and a brown belt, finishing with a sharp, sophisticated ensemble that commanded attention. An exquisite take on the theme; Joey was definitely one of the night’s pleasant surprises.
Ugbad Abdi: Tribute done right
When Ugbad Abdi showed up at the 2025 MET Gala carpet, I had no words. She was a vision in custom, Michael Kors Collection, channelling the spirit of André Leon Talley with grace and reverence. Her metallic charcoal paisley brocade cape with a faux silver fox collar was all the drama we needed. She paired it with a charcoal embroidered crystal pinstripe trouser suit, delivering impeccable dandy style. “Tailored for you” never looked more iconic.
Lewis Hamilton: A dandy with purpose
Fresh off the Miami Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton raced to New York for the 2025 Met Gala, joining co-chairs Colman Domingo and Anna Wintour on the carpet. Hamilton’s look, created with Grace Wales Bonner, was a flawless tribute to Black dandyism and personal identity. The ivory suit, featuring a cropped jacket, high-waisted trousers, and embroidered sash, paid homage to style icons like Cab Calloway and André Leon Talley. A Stephen Jones beret and symbolic baobab flower motifs added layers of cultural depth to the look. A perfect gentleman at the MET, we approve.
Willy Chavarría reimagines Pachuco style with a bold, contemporary twist
Chicano designer Willy Chavarría made his Met Gala debut in a stunning bubblegum pink double-breasted suit from his Autumn/Winter 25 collection. Previously the Senior Vice President of Design at Calvin Klein, Chavarria’s outfit pays tribute to Pachuco style—an iconic 1930s and 40s dandyism rooted in cultural resistance. Chavarría’s reimagined take perfectly blends streetwear with high fashion, celebrating his Chicano heritage. He perfectly accessorised with an embossed green tie and wide-brimmed hat, creating the flawless look that has us utterly captivated.
Khaby Lame: A time-bound statement
Fresh off a year of viral moments, Khaby Lame delivered a timely head-turning outfit at the 2025 Met Gala in an archive-inspired custom grey pinstripe zoot suit by BOSS. With a rich history from the 1940s as a symbol of cultural pride and political expression in the Black American community, the Zoot was in perfect alignment with the Gala’s theme. Layered with a classic trench coat, he accessorised with numerous pocket watches, a detail that tied the look together. Khabi’s outfit embodied both timeless style and powerful cultural significance.
As per usual, the 2025 Met Gala was more than a fashion event, but this time, it was also a cultural reset. This year wasn’t about who wore the biggest dress or the most diamonds. It was about precision, pride, and power. Each look told a story, each stitch honoured a legacy, and each guest reminded us that when Black style leads, fashion follows. Tailored for you wasn’t just a theme; it was a mirror, reflecting identity, history, and undeniable superfine style.
