GRWM with Deola Sagoe and Teni Sagoe for our cover shoot

Deola Sagoe and Teni Sagoe are the very definition of fashion royalty, and for Marie Claire Nigeria’s Holiday Issue, they delivered a masterclass in style, elegance, and generational synergy. I was behind the scenes as the iconic mother-daughter duo prepared for a cover shoot that celebrates their shared legacy, creative brilliance, and unshakable bond.

The setting

We started our day at Deola Lagos headquarters, a space that breathes the same sophistication as the Sagoe women. The buzz was electric, as a team of beauty maestros and stylists assembled to create two unforgettable cover moments.

For Deola, Lancôme provided by Esenza was the key to her flawless transformation. Under the skilful hands of world-renowned makeup artist Bimpe Onakoya, Deola’s makeup look was all about elegance.

  • Base: Bimpe prepped her skin with the Lancôme Advanced Génifique Serum, ensuring a radiant, hydrated canvas.

  • Complexion: A soft, dewy finish was achieved with Lancôme Teint Idole Ultra Wear Foundation, perfectly matched to her skin tone for a natural, seamless glow. Subtle contouring with the Lancôme Dual Finish Highlighter sculpted her face, while the Blush Subtil in a muted rose added just the right flush of colour.

  • Eyes and lips: The focus was on understated refinement, with the Lancôme Hypnôse Palette creating a delicate, neutral eye look. For her lips, the L’Absolu Rouge Cream Lipstick in 250 Beige Mirage offered a polished nude finish.

Hairstylist Grace began the transformation with the first hairstyle, creating an elegant and timeless look for Deola. Zubbydefinition completed the look with a sleek, sculpted updo – a nod to Deola’s refined and poised aesthetic.

Teni Sagoe

Teni’s makeup look was youthful and vibrant, capturing her role as the creative force behind CLAN. The Lancôme lineup played an equally vital role in her fresh, contemporary glow.

  • Prep: The Lancôme Hydra Zen Glow Liquid Moisturiser gave her skin a healthy, luminous base, while the Lancôme UV Expert Aquagel Defence Primer ensured a long-lasting, flawless finish.
  • Complexion: The Lancôme Teint Idole Ultra Wear Foundation provided light coverage, keeping her skin looking radiant yet natural. A touch of shimmer from the Lancôme Teint Idole Ultra Wear Stick Highlighter added dimension to her cheekbones.
  • Eyes and lips: Teni’s eyes sparkled with a subtle shimmer from the Lancôme Ombre Hypnôse Stylo Eyeshadow Stick, while her lips popped with the youthful pink of Lancôme Juicy Tubes in Spring Fling.

Sari Signature styled her hair into soft waves, perfectly complementing her glowing makeup look and youthful charm.

Fashion meets beauty

The Sagoe women’s wardrobe was the perfect extension of their beauty looks. Teni first stunned in a sharp CLAN two-piece ensemble for their first look, while both women stepped into structured Komole dresses by House of Deola for their second. The combination of beauty and fashion created a harmonious celebration of their shared legacy.

The result is a breathtaking cover that perfectly encapsulates the essence of the Sagoe women – tradition, innovation, and an unwavering passion for empowering women through fashion. This is more than a cover; it’s a celebration of heritage, creativity, and family.
