The “Wicked” star made a bold fashion statement at the 2025 Oscars with an emerald-green Louis Vuitton gown and a bridal dress covered in three-dimensional florals.

In true Cynthia Erivo, the lead star of “Wicked” served dramatic silhouettes, artistic nails, bold shapes and avant-garde accessories at the 2025 Oscars. Through familiar and unfamiliar shades of green, the actor continued to channel Elphaba Thropp as she walked the red carpet at the 97th Academy Awards.

For the red carpet, she appeared in a magnificent emerald-green Louis Vuitton dress. The sharp collars, billowing off-shoulder and dramatic silhouette made this velvet dress hard to miss. Just when we expected another green dress, the “Wicked” star took to the Oscars stage in an asymmetrical white ball gown covered in three-dimensional florals, effortlessly highlighting her style range. From gothic regal glamour to ethereal elegance, here is how Cynthia Erivo’s style left us swooning at the 97th Oscars.

A magnificent homage to Oz that defied gravity

Cynthia Erivo at the 2025 Oscars took defying gravity personally.  She stepped on the red carpet in a magnificent emerald-green Louis Vuitton ball gown with exaggerated geometric features that immediately commanded attention.

This dress was everything — bold, big, voluminous and dramatic. During a red carpet interview, Cynthia shared, “I wanted a big dress for the Oscars.” Cynthia’s dress wasn’t just big, it dazzled the red carpet with sharp collar tailoring, voluminous silhouette, and a billowing off-shoulder.

Cynthia Erivo and Jason Bolden — her stylist, drew sartorial inspiration from Emerald City, Ozian characters and the sharp pointy motif of the Tin Man. “We wanted an ode to Oz, to Emerald City, the gold and the guild,” Cynthia Erivo shared on the red carpet

Every aspect of her look, including her iconic nails, reflected Cynthia and Jason Bolden’s vision. In a clear nod to the story of Wicked and Oz, Mycah Dior (Cynthia Erivo’s nail tech) used striking metallic gold ornaments, a miniature watch, large gems and a reflective chrome finish for her manicure. The avant-garde manicure beautifully complemented her dramatic dress.

As expected, she dazzled us with her jewellery: the septum ring and red-carpet signature stack of earrings. Cynthia Erivo’s emerald-green look for the 2025 Oscars will remain one of her most iconic whimsical and daring red carpet moments.

The ”Wicked” star had us spellbound as she opened the Oscars alongside co-star Ariana Grande in a custom Vivienne Westwood dress. This ethereal dress is inspired by the “Love is Blind” SS97 collection and it raised brows. Is Cynthia telling us something?

Cynthia might not be saying much about her private life, but this dress made a statement at the Oscars. The Vivienne Westwood’s one-strap asymmetrical corset ball gown featured a layered skirt with green hemline detailing. The three-dimensional floral detailing of this dress at one hip across the bodice and the green dye hem highlighted her Wicked hue. She deviated from the traditional Elphaba aesthetic but with enough detail for us to enjoy.

Watching Cynthia Erivo perform “Defying Gravity” in such an ethereal dress was my Oscars’  highlight.

Cynthia Erivo’s looks for the Oscars were indeed Wicked. She enthralled us with her Elphaba-themed magnificent Louis Vuitton dress and defied expectations as she opened the Oscars in that gorgeous floral white dress. She served range, avant-garde fashion and moments worth highlighting. With style as her wand, Cynthia Erivo charmed us at the Oscars.
