Tems is creating a space for African women in music to shine through the Leading Vibe Initiative

In a powerful move to uplift women in music, Tems has launched the Leading Vibe Initiative — a platform redefining collaboration and access across Africa.

2x Grammy Award-winning artist, Tems, has launched the Leading Vibe Initiative (LVI) — a bold platform created to uplift, connect, and amplify young women in music across Africa. Rooted in Tems’ personal journey as a self-taught artist, this initiative provides women with the tools, resources, and community needed to navigate and succeed in the music industry.  But more than that, it’s about building legacy.

In an exclusive briefing, Tems explained that “LVI was born from a desire to build the platform she never had.” She went on to say that with the recent growth of the African music industry, “Systemic gaps remain, especially for women across various roles and behind the scenes.” To combat this, LVI promises to ensure that as the industry scales, women aren’t left behind but positioned to lead.

Beginning in Lagos, Nigeria, from 8 to 9 August, the initiative kicks off with an immersive two-day program designed for emerging women artists, songwriters, and producers. Through hands-on workshops, masterclasses, and panel discussions, participants will gain access to top-tier training, industry insights, and connections to seasoned music professionals.

Tems explained that the LVI  initiative is a “multi-year commitment with plans to expand across Africa.” It poised to become a continent-wide movement centred on shifting the narrative — breaking barriers and building new pathways for women to rise.

Contrary to the tired narrative that female artists don’t support one another, women in music have. They have long been building behind the scenes, amplifying each other’s voices, sharing resources, and opening doors. The Leading Vibe Initiative is proof of that solidarity made visible. It formalises what’s always existed: women showing up for women. It’s not competition, it’s collaboration, and it’s changing the game.

A 2x GRAMMY, 4x BET, and 2x AMA winner, Tems is making history, and rewriting it with intention and impact. Through her music and now the Leading Vibe Initiative, she continues to carve out space for women.  She does this in an industry that hasn’t always made room. By setting a new standard for what’s possible, Tems is inspiring a generation of women to rise boldly, authentically, and unapologetically.
