Sometimes, all you need is a quick weekend getaway — and we’ve curated the best spots that require no passport

When life feels like an endless to-do list, the most powerful move is to pause and gift yourself the luxury of a weekend getaway you truly deserve.

The other day, I caught myself feeling completely drained — not just physically tired, I felt soul-deep exhaustion. Between juggling work deadlines, social obligations, and the unrelenting pace of life in Nigeria, I hadn’t truly rested in ages. Sound familiar? As women, especially in our part of the world, we’re often expected to keep going. To show up and smile through it all. But here’s the truth: you can’t pour from an empty cup — and you shouldn’t have to. That’s why I started dreaming of something small but sacred: a weekend getaway just for me. No stress, no guilt, no passport queues. Just peace, pampering, and a reminder that I’m allowed to put myself first.

If your soul is quietly craving the same, this guide is for you. Here’s how to plan the ultimate “treat yourself” weekend getaway — elegant, restful, and completely within reach.

Where to go: Elegant local escapes

You don’t need to leave the country to experience great hospitality. These destinations combine luxury, comfort, and culture, right here in Nigeria.

The George Hotel, Ikoyi (Lagos)

Right in one of Lagos’ most serene neighbourhoods, The George offers the perfect blend of sophistication and tranquillity. Think plush beds, fine dining, and a quiet poolside lounge where you can sip a chilled mimosa without a care in the world.

Lakowe Lakes Golf & Country Estate (Lagos)

If you crave greenery, fresh air, and a bit of quiet luxury; this lakeside estate is your haven. Book a cottage or an apartment with a private deck, take morning walks around the lake, or enjoy a spa massage followed by a peaceful ride on the lake.

Transcorp Hilton (Abuja)

In the heart of Nigeria’s capital lies this refined gem — ideal for the woman who wants convenience without compromising elegance. The Transcorp Hilton offers a serene poolside escape and upscale dining with breathtaking city views Transcorp also offers proximity to art galleries, lounges, and boutiques for a touch of Abuja’s chic lifestyle. Want more indulgence? Their spa treatments are top-tier — think hot stone massages and aromatherapy that melts stress away.

If cooler air and mountain views are calling your name; Obudu is your answer. Wrap yourself in a jumper , sip hot chocolate on your balcony, and let the misty hills work their magic.

Ikogosi Warm Springs Resort (Ekiti)

Ikogosi Warm Springs is a hidden gem where nature’s magic quietly unfolds. It’s one of the few places on earth where warm and cold springs flow side by side — a rare wonder that must be experienced to be believed.

This resort offers a seamless blend of relaxation, adventure, and understated luxury. Whether you’re taking a peaceful hike through the lush terrain, cycling along scenic trails, or unwinding by the spring, Ikogosi invites you to slow down and reconnect with nature and yourself.

Almaty Farms (Abuja)

For the woman who values clean living and conscious choices, Almat Farms offers an escape that aligns perfectly with your lifestyle. This tranquil haven, nestled in nature and surrounded by fresh, unspoiled air, caters to those seeking wellness in its purest form.

Enjoy farm-to-table meals prepared with organically grown ingredients, participate in natural cooking experiences, and unwind with activities like horseback riding, fishing, and swimming — all set against the soothing backdrop of the countryside.

How to indulge: Your itinerary of bliss

Friday evening – Arrival & unwind

Check into your hotel or resort and immediately switch off. Leave the laptop closed. Unplug. Order room service — yes, go for the seafood platter or that extra slice of red velvet cake. You’ve earned it. Light a candle, run a bath, play your favourite relaxation or “girl power” playlist, and let your weekend getaway begin with ease.

Saturday – Spa, style, and slow living

Start your day with a slow breakfast. Fluffy pancakes and tropical fruits are my favourite, or you can opt for a Nigerian twist with yam and egg sauce, beautifully plated. Then: spa time. A full-body massage with shea butter or baobab oil. A deep-cleansing facial. Mani-pedi with that bold red polish you always love.

Afternoon? Lounge by the pool with a book. Take a solo walk in nature. Journal your thoughts. Reflect. Or you could go on a little adventure by exploring activities within or nearby .

Later, dress up — just for you. A satin wrap dress or flowy sundress, fresh curls or cornrows, gold hoops. Head to the resort restaurant for dinner or order in and dine under the stars.

Sunday – Soul food & soft life

Attend a virtual service or meditation session. Sip warm tea as you write down affirmations: I am worthy, I am rested, and I am allowed joy. Enjoy a soulful brunch with a sweet cocktail.

Leave late. Don’t rush back into the bustle. Let the softness linger.

What to pack: Elegant & effortless

It may be a weekend getaway, but you still need to be prepared. Besides clothes and essential toiletries, here are a few more ideas.

A silky robe or kimono for lounging

Your favourite perfume (treat yourself to a spritz before bed!)

Matching pyjama  sets (because why not?)

A playlist that feels like honey

A journal & pen for reflections

Minimal yet bold jewellery (gold bangles, statement earrings)

A good book (we have a few recommendations for you)

Simply because you deserve it

This isn’t about extravagance. It’s about restoration and choosing yourself — fully, freely, and without guilt. A weekend like this isn’t just a luxury; it’s an act of self-love.

So, whether you’re a career queen, a boss mum, or a woman navigating life with grace and grit, this is your sign: Book that weekend getaway. Make it sacred. And remember — no passport required, just permission to feel good.

Treat yourself!
